Coach Larry

Larry ran his first marathon in 2002 and fell in love with the challenge. Since then, he has run more than 75 marathons and various ultra-marathons, including a 50 miler. He is currently on a "Quest 4 Seven," planning to complete a marathon on all seven continents. With one continent remaining, he is on track to complete his quest in 2017. He has also been fortunate enough to qualify for Boston on several occasions and ran the Boston Marathon in 2016, followed by the Big Sur Marathon six days later. He is signed up for Boston 2017 as well!

Larry has Coaching Certifications from both the RRCA and USATF and combines that knowledge with his personal experience to help runners reach their goals. He loves working with new runners and sharing his passion and expertise to make their first experience a safe and satisfying one. He also enjoys working with more experienced runners to help them improve and avoid injury.

Coach Val

Valerie grew up in France in a very active family with a strong focus on competitive tennis. Biking, ballet dance, water sports and casual running were also part of the usual activities. After moving to California and taking a job in the corporate world, she found herself dealing with health issues and realized that being active again was the only way back to wellness. Getting back in shape, going to the gym and running was a grueling but rewarding process where she discovered a passion for personal training and running.

With the support of her husband and daughter, she decided to pursue a new career as a personal trainer. Shortly thereafter, she founded Be Active – Be Well and obtained her NASM PT Certification and RRCA Coaching Certification. Today she enjoys changing the lives of her clients by helping them get healthier, stronger, and introducing them to the great sport of running.

Coach Chris

Chris ran for several years before setting his sights on the marathon in 2006 and the ultra-marathon in 2008. To date he has completed over twenty marathons, six 50ks and six 50 milers with many more to come. In addition to running, he has expanded his endurance challenges to include triathlons and cycling events. He has completed three half Ironman events and two full Ironman events as well as various shorter triathlons. He has also participated for four years in the AIDS Life/Cycle, a 7-day, 565-mile bike ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles.

Chris mentored several runners to help them complete their first 50 miler and enjoyed the experience so much that he decided to get his Coaching Certification from RRCA to gain a deeper understanding of how to properly train runners of all levels. Chris is dedicated to helping others meet their own personal endurance goals while enjoying the sport they have chosen.
