FATASS Information:

First, what is a FATASS event?:

A FATASS event is basically a free event that allows people to get together and go for a run. It is NOT a race, so don't expect aid station, course markings, or swag.... That being said, we plan on having an aid station vehicle located mid point of the course.

Why are we moving to a FATASS style?

The honest answer, the RD is f*cking tired!

I, the RD (Paulo Medina) love this trails and this weekend,  I love the campgrounds, the time spent with my friends, roasting a whole pig for everyone, I love my kids getting involved and seeing them run around, and I also enjoy the community. But, I hate the work and the level of commitment that it takes when the event is a paid event. Runners pay for a service and I have to deliver, therefore, I never fully get to enjoy the weekend. This time, runners will get exactly what they paid for... nada.... that being said, I/we will provide food, beer and the time that it takes to get organize the shenanigans. Keep reading for more information.

Course:

The whole Mokelumne River Coast to Creat trail section is a point to point trail that covers up to 50km, the trail can be accessed at different points for those that would like to run shorter.

We will have two groups:

GROUP 1 - 50km & Marathon

GROUP 2 - Half Marathon

Both groups will meet at the GOLD RUN campsite on April 16. We will organize carpooling options to leave at 8am, to start running by 9am. It can be pretty hot, so make sure you can self sufficient and are up to the mileage. This trails and conditions are not for begineers to try a new distance.

We will provide gpx file that can be downloaded to your phone or watch, the course is also easy to follow by PAYING ATTENTION to the signs.

Every person that plans on running, must have a trail pass, which can be purchased online, or at the kiosk when entering the park. You can purchase your pass online here.

The shenanigans:

While this is a 100% family friendly event, we are planning fun times for the adults. Our 3 kids will be present and also enjoy the weekend. We block off the vehicle entrance to Gold Run campsites so kids can ride their bikes around.

Birthday whiskey tasting night (Friday-Sunday):

Whiskey tasting night started a few years ago when the RD got a few bottles of whiskey for his bday (April 18). Since the RD was getting ready for the race, everyone drank his whiskey. Since then, runners have brought in whiskey bottles to share throughout the weekend.

If you like whiskey, bring a bottle to share, place it on the whiskey table and everyone can help themselves. If your bottle is not empty by Sunday, you can take it home with you. Do not be upset if your bottle is empty. Don't expect to take your bottle home.

Saturday group swim:

3pm group swim - location tbd

Saturday night beer mile at 6pm:

The FATASS headquarters is at the Gold Run campsite. Which happens to be exactly .25 mile long. Every runner that would like to participate in the beer mile must bring their own beers (4). Beer must be no less than 5% in alcohol volume.

Saturday night bonfire:

Runners can contribute by bringing firewood. If you have an above ground fire ring, you can bring it to be placed around the main fire-ring for a bigger bonefire.

The food:

We will roast a whole pig on Saturday. Pig roasting begins around 8am and will be ready by 3-4pm, and available while supplies last.

We ask that everyone brings something to share with at least 3 other people on Saturday.

Camping:

The FATASS HQ is at the Gold Run campsite. Everyone must reserve their own site, which can be done by through here Camanche Resorts. You don't have to stay at the GOLD RUN CAMPSITE, but it is nice to wake up and be part of the shenanigans right away. Gold Run campsite can accomodate RVs, but there are no hook-ups.

MAKE SURE YOU STAY AT THE SOUTH SHORE !!

If you are not into camping, Lake Camanche also have a few bungalows available.

Trail Use Permit:

All runners will need to obtain a trail use permit to run the race. One day Trail use permit cost is $3.00 , yearly permit is $10. We encourage all runners to obtain a yearly permit before the event to expedite things on race day.

A Trail Use Permit bearer (Permittee) may take additional responsibility for and accompany his/her immediate family and up to three (3) guests while on EBMUD trails.

Parking:

Runners not camping must park in the main parking area next to the Lake Camanche store.
