“Just going through life and not giving up … running has taught me to do that.”
- Matías Rogers

The Miles For Mayo 5K is a timed, family-friendly community event focused on commemorating the life of Matías “Mayo” Rogers and helping others find inspiration through running. All proceeds support local high schools and the Delta Limitless youth running program.

Matías passed away at the age of 16 on June 16, 2021 in a tragic car accident. We will always remember Matías as a son, brother, teammate, friend and loved one who had a deep passion for running, and always offered his support and laughter to others.

Running lifted Matías’ spirits, challenged his ambitions and inspired him to reach new heights. He holds the fastest distance times for both a freshman and sophomore in Liberty High School’s history. He also recorded one of the fastest 3-mile times in the country for a sophomore in 2021 (14 minutes, 57 seconds). Liberty named Matías its 2021 Boys Student Citizenship Award winner for exemplifying the highest grades, character, teamwork and athletic achievement.

Runner’s from local high schools left an open spot for Matías during the 2021-22 cross country and track seasons.

Matías also excelled academically and was named the 2020-21 AP student of the year with a 4.3 GPA. He had plans to attend a top University with goals to make a difference in the lives of others. He was a generous, caring and loving young man who is incredibly missed by all who knew him.
